Fatalities in Afyonkarahisar
I report eight deaths and one person seriously injured following a series of shootings in Turkey’s Afyonkarahisar province this Thursday. The suspect targeted victims who were found in three separate vehicles at various locations. According to reports from the state-run Anadolu Agency, three people were killed near Ayazini village and three others were killed near Kiyir village. In the area of Yukaritandir, two women were found injured and later died in the hospital. I find the fact that two teachers were among the dead particularly grim. Turkish media published CCTV footage showing a man wearing a black jacket, white trousers, and glasses clutching a long weapon while he stood by a red minivan.
| Location of Incident | Number of Deaths |
|---|---|
| Ayazini village | 3 |
| Kiyir village | 3 |
| Yukaritandir | 2 |

Pursuit and arrest in Eskisehir
I see that the suspect fled the scene and triggered a manhunt before authorities arrested him in Eskisehir province. Local media reported that police closed roads leading to the affected villages to facilitate a large-scale operation to find the gunman. The newspaper Milliyet reported that a vehicle allegedly taken by the attacker had been later found stuck in mud because the suspect had abandoned it before he fled the area on foot. I find the fact that the vehicle the attacker allegedly took was later found stuck in mud a significant detail. The suspect abandoned the red minivan before he fled the area on foot. The shooter was eventually apprehended in Eskisehir after he fled the province on foot. I report that eight people were killed and one person was seriously injured during the attacks involving the three separate vehicles. I note that the police conducted a large-scale operation to find the suspect after he fled the scene.
